A warm welcome to The Gunn Report Archive. A cornucopia of information and ideas and stories about the world's best advertising.
All good things come to an end. And so did The Gunn Report in 2016. Seventeen post retirement years on this - albeit very rewarding - project were enough for me. But on the urging of a lot of our favourite users, we are honoured to keep the Archive alive and available.
The Gunn Report Databank features all of our league tables and commentaries - about the ads and who did them - from 1999 - 2016. In the case of film, Gunn.TV goes back even further, bringing you the best commercials in the world since 1962 - with advanced search menus you won't find anywhere else. A major theme throughout is that ads which are admired and applauded and awarded sell better. The Archive includes chapter and verse from 5 proprietary research studies about creativity and effectiveness.
In addition, the website has been put together - by Emma Wilkie, my collaborator, and me - as a resource for education. It lays on a series of workshops and presentations about how good ads get made - in film, in print and outdoor, in digital and in non-traditional (often 'own-invented') media - all of them lavishly illustrated. Training officers in agencies and teachers in colleges and ad schools swear by them.
Acknowledging this function in life, subscription is free. And, here's hoping that The Gunn Report Archive carries on being useful to those who love great advertising.
